Guanajuato, a colonial city with beautiful buildings that contain the elements of the two main cultures that created them, Indian and Hispanic, and marking the source of our nation, its architectural features preserved and protected environment for its inhabitants and government state and municipal, was declared by UNESCO as a Historic Town of Guanajuato and Adjacent Mines in December 1988.
Inscribed on the World Heritage List on December 9, 1988, under the following criteria: I, II, IV and VI1
I). To represent a masterpiece of human creative genius;
In the field of history of technology, Guanajuato is also proud of the artistic achievements as the "Mouth of Hell, a shot of mine of 12 meters in diameter and 600 meters profundidad.Guanajuato has several of the finest examples of the Baroque architecture in America.
The churches of the Company (1745 - 1765) and Valencia (1765 - 1788) are masterpieces of Churrigueresque.
II). Exhibit an important interchange of human values, over a span of time or within a cultural area or particular, in the fields of architecture or technology, monumental arts, town-planning or landscape design;
The influence of Guanajuato, from the sixteenth to the eighteenth century, was felt in most mining towns of northern Mexico.
Although modest, due to the late onset of industrialization, Guanajuato's contributions to world history of technology were important.
IV). Be an outstanding example of a type of building or architectural or technological ensemble or landscape which illustrates one or more significant stage in human history;
Guanajuato is an outstanding example of an architectural ensemble that incorporates industrial, and economic aspects of a mining town.
Just as the great eighteenth-century waterworks are intimately linked to a defined urban topography narrow river course and outcroppings of ore, and so are the baroque buildings with the wealth of the mines.
The church of La Valencia and Valencia Casa Rul and were financed by the mine more prosperous, more modest Mines Tasting and Mellado also flourished in the form of churches, palaces and houses, near them or in the city
VI). Be directly or tangibly associated with events or living traditions, with ideas, or with beliefs, with artistic and literary works of outstanding universal significance have. (The Committee considers that this criterion should preferably be used concomitantly with other criteria).
Guanajuato is directly and materially related to the economic history of the world, particularly in the eighteenth century.
